Hello, dancers!

Heritage Irish Stepdancers * January 2012

Happy New Year!

St. Patrick's Day Shows

March is just around the corner!   We usually do about 40 shows during the month of March.   All of our students are welcome to participate!

If you would like to join us for shows during the month of March, you will need a Heritage costume.   For girls, there are three different versions of the team costume.   We’ve described them (and how to get them) below.   Girls also need gillies, flashpants, and poodle socks, which you can get from Irish Butterfly (or email us, and we can bring them to your class).   Boys need a white, long-sleeved, button-down shirt, black slacks, and black dress socks, all of which you can buy at a department store.   Boys also need jazz shoes, which you can buy through Irish Butterfly.

The St. Patrick’s Day Parade will be downtown on Saturday, March 17.   Family and friends are welcome to march in the parade, too!   Anyone interested in marching (rather than dancing) in the parade needs to wear a Heritage t-shirt, hoodie, hat, or sweatshirt.   Let us know if you need to order a Heritage item.   Heritage items should be ordered by the end of January in order to have them by St. Patrick’s Day.

To sign up for St. Patrick’s Day shows, look in the purple notebook in the lobby.   Each show will have its own sign-up sheet.   Find a show that works for location, date, and time for you, and put your name down.   Shows are limited to 12 dancers each (except for the St. Patrick’s Day Parade), so be sure to sign up right away!   Check the notebook for new shows each week.   You can also email us to sign up for a show.

Once you’ve signed up for a show, you’ll be emailed information (including directions, what to wear, and when to show up) a few weeks before the show date.

If you have questions, please let us know!

Costumes for Girls

There are three different styles of Heritage costumes for girls.   The biggest difference between them is price, so you should go with whichever costume fits your budget.   You don’t need to be a certain level to get a certain costume.   Here are descriptions and ordering instructions for each type of costume:

#1—Skirt and Blouse.   This is a green, pleated skirt and a white button-up blouse.   It costs about $20.   To order this costume, go to www.frenchtoast.com, and search for the pleated skirt in green in your size, and the long-sleeved pointy collar blouse in white in your size.   We also sometimes have used versions of this costume in the store. You will also need to buy green flashpants.

#2—Velvet Skirt and Shirt.   This is a green velvet skirt with a white satin lining and a gold satin belt, plus a green velvet shirt.   It costs $120.   To order this costume, talk to Ariel or Alexa.   They will measure you, and then the costume will be custom-made for you.   We also might have used versions of this costume in the store (used versions of this costume cost about $75).   New costumes need to be ordered by January 31 to ensure delivery by St. Patrick’s Day.

#3—Team Dress.   This is a green velvet dress with celtic knotwork embroidery.   It costs $500 new, or $200-$400 used (we have some used versions of this costume in the store).   To order this costume, talk to Ariel or Alexa.   They will measure you, and then the costume will be custom-made for you (or they will check the used dresses for sale). New costumes need to be ordered by January 31 to ensure delivery by St. Patrick’s Day.

Upcoming Shows and Events!

January 27-28, 2011 – Winterfeis (competition—see more info below)

Fantastic Fun Feis!

Thanks to everyone who participated at this year's Fun Feis on Tuesday, December 20!   We had a wonderful time watching all of our dancers perform so well.

If you’re interested in seeing pictures from the Fun Feis, you can find them on our Facebook pages (either our business page or our group).

Winterfeis

Colorado Winterfeis, the first competition of the year, will be held Friday, January 27 and Saturday, January 28 at the Douglas County Fairgrounds in Castle Rock.   Adults and group dances will be held on Friday, January 27 in the evening, and all other dancers will compete on Saturday, January 28.   The specific stage schedule will be available on www.feisworx.com.   The entry deadline is January 13.

To get to Douglas County Fairgrounds, take I-25 to Castle Rock and get off at exit 181, Plum Creek Parkway.   Go east on Plum Creek Parkway for about half a mile and then turn left onto Douglas County Faigrounds Road.   There will then be signs directing you to the competition, which will be in the main building.

Spectators get in free to this event, so come out and support your Heritage dancers!

We will be holding classes as usual on Friday, January 27 and Saturday, January 28 for dancers not participating in Winterfeis.

Class Cancellations

There are no planned class cancellations in January.

We will be holding classes January 27-28 for students not competing at Winterfeis.

In case of inclement weather, please call us at (720) 747-9377 or on our cell phone, (303) 748-9207, to find out the status of your class.

March Stage Show

Every March, Heritage puts on a stage show at the Broomfield Auditorium.   The stage show raises money for our dancers competing at the National Championships, and it also gives everyone a chance to sing, dance, act, and be creative in a way they don’t get to in normal shows.

This year, our show will be held on Saturday, March 17 and Sunday, March 18, both at 3:00 p.m. at the Broomfield Auditorium.

If you are interested in performing in our show, we’d love to have you! To be in the show, dancers will need to do the following things:

*Send us an email letting us know about your interest, and letting us know whether you will attend Tuesday group class, Saturday group class, or both

*Attend group class on Tuesdays from 6:30-7:30 p.m. and/or Saturdays

from 8:30-9:30 a.m. at the Friendship Center every week from

the first week of January through the show in March.   The tuition

for group class is $30 per month per person.

*Volunteer for at least one of the many jobs we will have preparing the

show (or get a family member to volunteer).   Jobs will include

making costumes, printing posters, finding ways to advertise the

show, driving our set and costumes up to the Auditorium, setting

up the floor, tearing down afterwards, selling tickets, ushering, etc.

If you have any questions about the show, please don’t hesitate to ask.   This is a great opportunity to be creative and make new friends.

Tickets will go on sale February 1.   Adult tickets will be $12 in advance and $15 at the door; kids under 13 and seniors will be $10 in advance and $12 at the door.   Tickets will be available through www.irishbutterfly.com or through the store.
