Class Dates

June class will run from Monday, May 29 through Saturday, June 24. The June schedule will be the same as the May schedule. If you will not be attending class in June, please send us an email to let us know (if you didn’t already).

July class will run from Friday, June 30 through Saturday, July 29. July will be a stand-alone month with a special schedule (see below)

August will be part of the Fall Semester and will start on Tuesday, August 1. We will be sending out information about the Fall Semester schedule later in June.

Makeup Classes

Remember that all makeup classes from the Spring Semester (April through June) need to be used by Saturday, June 24. You can also use makeups to get tickets to the Heritage Birthday Party on June 27 (see below).

Pike’s Peak Feis

Pike's Peak Feis will be Friday, June 9 and Saturday, June 10, 2017 in Monument, CO (just north of Colorado Springs).

The feis is free for spectators, so come and cheer on the Heritage dancers!

We will be having class as usual June 9-10 for dancers not competing.

Heritage 19th Annual Birthday Party!

Heritage began holding classes in June of 1998. We celebrate this every year with a "Birthday Party" featuring dancing, music, cake, and fun!

This year's Birthday Party will be Tuesday, June 27 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the Friendship Irish Dance Center, 1944 S. Quebec Street in Denver. We’re having our Birthday Party later than usual this year to make sure that all our graduating seniors can attend.

Tickets for spectators will be $5 (kids under 7 get in free). Spectators can also get tickets in exchange for make-up lessons if you buy them in advance (3 tickets per make-up lesson). Email us to get makeup tickets in advance, or you can buy tickets at the door.

ALL our dancers, no matter what age and level, are invited to dance at the Birthday Party!  If you'd like to perform, all you need is a Heritage costume and Irish dance shoes. Sign up online at http://www.signupgenius.com/go/9040449ada72aaa8-19th.

We will be practicing dances for the Birthday Party in class.

At the Birthday Party, we will also give out our Spirit Awards and Scholarships for the fall semester. Please help us by turning in nominations! Let us know who deserves a Spirit Award or Scholarship and what makes them special. You can drop a note in the box, email us, or text us.

Thanks! We look forward to dancing with everyone!

Heritage Yearbook

Krista Hwang, our resident photographer, is putting together a book of photos taken in the past 12 months. If you have any photos of Heritage classes or events that you’d like to share, we would love to have them! You can email the photos to heritageirishphotos@gmail.com, or you can also send the photos via Dropbox (contact Krista at the gmail address to find out how to send them via Dropbox).

If you are interested in purchasing one of these yearbooks, you can sign up for one at class, or email Krista and let her know how many you’d like and what size. There is a 5x7 paperback version and an 8x10 hardcover version.

 Nationals!

Krystal Thompson, Olivia Seiler, Michael Bogumill and Gregory West will be competing at the North American Irish Dance Championships in New Orleans July 4-8! At the Birthday Party show and June classes, we will have good luck cards to sign for these dancers. We will be posting updates about how everyone is doing on our Facebook page as well.

Colorado Irish Festival Feis and Mile High City Feis

Colorado Irish Festival Feis

We will be running the Colorado Irish Festival Feis (also known as CUIS) on Saturday, July 15 as part of the Colorado Irish Festival. This year, the feis will be held at a new venue (with air conditioning!): ThunderRidge High School in Highlands Ranch.

Running a feis requires lots of parent and dancer volunteers, so we would love if you could help us out. There are lots of different jobs available, and most of them require no experience. Jobs can be done by dancers, parents, family members, or friends. We have lots of different slots available, so you would be able to find a time to volunteer and watch your dancer compete.

Volunteer jobs include:
Picking up judges at the airport (drivers get mileage paid)
Driving judges between the hotel and the venue before and after the feis
Setting up for the feis on Friday afternoon
Handing out dancer cards at the registration table
Handing out medals at the awards table
Picking up scoresheets and taking them to tabulation
Checking in dancers backstage
Selling concessions
Cleaning up after the feis

Volunteers get free lunch and our eternal gratitude. Click this link to sign up to volunteer:

It’s also a great competition to try out as your first one! If you’re interested in competing at the Colorado Irish Festival Feis, be sure to talk to your teacher before registering. Registration is open now at www.feisworx.com. The entry deadline is Friday, June 16.

Included in each dancer’s registration is free admission to the feis and the Colorado Irish Festival at Clement Park on Saturday for competitors and family members from the same household—it’s a great deal!

Non-champion dancers Under 11 will be dancing in the morning, and non-champion dancers 11 & Over will be dancing in the afternoon. For champions, opens will be in the morning and prelims in the afternoon.

Mile High City Feis

We will be running a second feis, the Mile High City Feis, on Sunday, July 16, also at ThunderRidge High School. Again, non-champion dancers Under 11 will be dancing in the morning, and non-champion dancers 11 & Over will be dancing in the afternoon. For champions, opens will be in the morning and prelims in the afternoon.

All the proceeds from Mile High City Feis will go to help out Heritage, so we encourage all of our students to sign up! All ages and levels are welcome to try it out.

We will need lots of volunteers for this second competition, too. If you’re interested in volunteering on either day, you can sign up by clicking this link:

Again, registration is open at www.feisworx.com, and the registration deadline is June 16.

Thank you! We are really excited about these events!

Crystal Vases

Last year, we gave out crystal vases as prizes for the championship competitions at Colorado Irish Festival and Mile High City Feis, and we'd like to do that again this year.

To get enough crystal, we need volunteers to go to thrift stores in your area and look for crystal or cut-glass vases, bowls, or plates (NO ASHTRAYS please). Any size is all right, and the items do not have to match (it was actually very charming to have different items last year).

We need about 100 pieces total, so the more different people we can have looking in different thrift stores, the better. Our budget is $20 or less per piece.

If you find any crystal, please bring it and your itemized receipt to class with you and we'll reimburse you.

Let us know if you have any questions. Thank you very much for your help!

July Classes

Since so many dancers and teachers are on vacation in July, we will be having a special schedule. You can find the schedule and information on our website, www.heritageirish.com. Click on the “Classes” tab on the left and follow the links.

To sign up for July classes, go to http://www.signupgenius.com/go/9040449ada72aaa8-july3 and put your name down for any class dates you’ll be attending.

We’ll also be having a summer camp July 24-27. Dancers can attend all four days or just one or two. Sign up at http://www.signupgenius.com/go/9040449ada72aaa8-july4

Fall classes will start August 1, and we’ll be sending out fall information in a few weeks.

We’re thinking about adding some new classes to our fall schedule, so let us know what you be interested in by filling out our class survey:

Thanks!

How to Dress for Summer Class

With the weather getting warmer, everybody’s getting out their summer clothes. Here are a couple things to remember when you’re dressing for class:

We need to see your legs when you dance, so please don’t wear long skirts (skirts that are knee length or shorter are OK).

However, while we want to see your legs, we don’t want to see your undies (or your bum), so please wear leggings or shorts underneath skirts.

For the same reason, please make sure that shorts aren’t too short. If you’re not sure whether they’re too short or not, ask your teacher (or your mom).

Don’t wear denim or other stiff material. It’s too hard to lift your leg in.

Dancing in your socks is bad for your feet, so you need to wear your shoes in class (dance tennies are OK). Thank you very much!

100 Cards

Don’t forget to turn in your 100 Cards (your practice cards) each week! Dancers who turn in their completed cards 5 or more times get to perform in Big Dog (or a special soft shoe dance) at the Birthday Party show in June. There’s still time to earn your spot!

Heritage Irish Stepdancers July 2017 Schedule Information!

Our current Spring Semester will run through Saturday, June 24 with the same class schedule as May. If you will NOT be attending class in June, please email us or drop us a note in the tuition box, and we will make sure that you are not invoiced for the month.

July will be its own tuition month with a special schedule. We will be running feis practices at all three locations to help get dancers ready for Colorado Irish Festival Feis and Mile High City Feis, and at the end of the month we will be having a summer camp and some special classes.

Our Fall Semester will run from August 1 through November 17. We will be sending out information about the Fall Semester in a few weeks.

The July class schedule is at the bottom of the page. To register for classes in July, click on the link at the top of the schedule, and you will be taken to the Sign Up Genius page where you can sign up for the classes you will be attending. Since we will be offering a drop-in tuition option in July, be sure to sign up for all the individual class dates that you’d like to attend.

Classes must have at least 5 students to run, so sign up right away to make sure your class runs. Register by Saturday, June 17 to reserve your spot in class.

Sign Up Genius will send you a reminder 3 days before each class date that you have registered for.

Plan carefully before registering: after June 17, you will be charged for any classes you have registered for, even if your plans later change and you are unable to attend.

Unfortunately, you won’t be able to use makeups from the Spring Semester in July; Spring Semester makeups must be used by June 27.

Please let us know if you have any questions!

Competition Class Requirements
If you are planning on competing at Colorado Irish Festival Feis or Mile High City Feis, you need to take at least 1 feis practice if you are in Beginner 1-Intermediate 1 level class, or at least 2 feis practices if you are Intermediate 2-Champion 2.

If you are not able to attend these feis practices, contact us and we can discuss your options.
Tuition
For July, you will have two options for tuition: you can pay for the month, or you can pay per class.

Paying for the month covers four classes during July. These classes do not all have to be on the same day of the week or at the same time; you can mix and match classes. Just be sure to register for all the dates you want to attend.

If you will not be able to attend four classes during the tuition month and prefer to pay per class, you may do that instead. There is no family discount for the per class option.

Monthly tuition for the first 4 classes per calendar month:
$80 for Beginner 2 and above
$60 for Basics and Beginner 1

Additional 4 classes for dancer or family members (same household):
+$40 for Beginner 2 and above
+$30 for Basics and Beginner 1

Per class tuition:
$25 for Beginner 2 and above
$20 for Basics and Beginner 1

Special tuition deal! Register and pay for classes by June 17 and get $10 off the monthly rate (for the first 4 classes per month) or $5 off the per class rate. You can pay at class, or you can pay online by using this link:

http://www.signupgenius.com/go/9040449ada72aaa8-paymybill3

Summer Camp
We will be holding a summer camp at the Friendship Center from Monday, July 24 through Thursday, July 27. Summer camp is open to dancers of all ages and levels! Dancers will work on conditioning, form, and solo dances from 9 a.m. to 12:00 noon every day, have a lunch break from 12:00-1:00 p.m., and then work on group dances from 1:00-3:00 p.m.

Cost:  $125 for the entire week, both morning and afternoon sessions
$100 for the entire week, morning sessions only
$75 for the entire week, afternoon sessions only
$50 per day for both morning and afternoon sessions
$40 per day for morning sessions only
$30 per day for afternoon sessions only

To register for summer camp, sign up online by clicking this link:

Teacher Training

Dancers who are at least 13 years old and Intermediate 1 or higher in level can become assistant teachers! Teaching earns you credit toward your classes, helps Heritage, and also helps you become a better dancer yourself.

If you are interested in becoming an assistant (or continuing to be an assistant for the 2017-2018 school year), here’s what you need to do:

  1. Sign up for at least one of the Teacher Training seminars. They’ll be held on Thursdays from 4:30-6:30 p.m. at the Friendship Center. If you can’t either seminar, please let us know.
  2. Sign up for at least one Blitz Teaching slot for every level you’re interested in teaching. For instance, if you are interested in teaching Basics, Beginner 1, and Beginner 2, you need to sign up for two Blitz Teaching sessions for Basics-Beginner 1 and one session for Beginner 2 and above. During Blitz Teaching, all of the assistants will take turns teaching dancers the steps for that level. This will help you go over the steps as well as give you teaching practice.

After you’ve signed up, we’ll contact with you with details about which steps you’ll be teaching during Steps Blitz. There will be no charge for the Teacher Training seminars, since the teaching you will do for the Steps Blitzes will cover that.

Fall Semester Survey

You can help us plan our Fall Semester by filling out the survey below:

https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/WD93Y63

This survey will let us know what days, times, and locations are best for you for taking class. Also, we are thinking about adding some additional kinds of classes (like group dance), and this survey will help us decide if we have enough interest to do that.

Thanks for your input!
